Tools in Water Wars

8c: Water Wars: Bottling up the World's Supply of H2O

Rhetorical Question- "the issue can be distilled inot a simple, opening proposition: tap, or bottled water?" This rhetorical question at the beginning of the essay sets up nicely what the issue is and what it will be addressing. It asks the question so that you can start thinking about it and then he proceeds to give the facts.
Imagery- after the specific numbers of how much water is used to produce the plastic bottles he says, "In fact, more water is used to make PET bottles than is actually put into them." This imagery gives the reader a very spefic image and idea about just how much water is used to make the plastic bottles in comparison to the actual use we get out of them.
Analogy/Simile/Imagery- "Taking away your water is the same thing as putting a gun to your head." Comparing the lack of water to having a gun put to your head really cements the idea that without water, like being shot by a gun, will kill you. And because of where it is placed in the essay it is the author's final say about how important the issue is.
