Origins of Racism in Colonial America

My topic explores how racism took shape as white-supremacy in the American colonies. I want to know specifically if white-supremacy existed in such a strong state before slavery was passed as statutory law. I think that it's possible that racism could have developed as a way to justify slavery in respect to the Constitution. My argument is kairotic because many people are still unfamiliar with the origins of racism in the colonies. Racism is an issue that Americans still deal with everyday, and I think that exploring the origins of this issue is an important thing to do.

I think that statistics from the time period will be helpful in my argument. If I can find statistics about African-Americans landowners and slaves, I may be able to incorporate that into my argument. Statistics in history often legitimize a claim or argument.

Comparison by degree will also be helpful to me in my argument. I plan on going through the history of colonial American beginning at about 1600 in order to compare the degrees of racism that were apparent from that point until slavery was made lawful. This will give me the proper insight and credibility in my argument because my issue specifically deals with events in relation to time.
