Overstatement- In this article Barlow uses an Overstatement when he says, "Get big or die" while describing the media in other countries competing with the US media. This works because it makes one realize how big the competition is between countries and their arts and how important it is to go all out and make yours better than the next if you want your culture to survive in the media fight.
Analogy/similie - Barlow in the article makes a statement when he describes culture as a buisness. When he states that it is a buisness it shows again how hard it is to keep ones culture alive. While other countries media is overpowering the next their culture is dwindleing because what teens and even adults see in the media, that is what the want to become and they begin to forget their culture.
Allusion- In this aticle by Barlow he states, " The most significant was a 1997 ruling in which the US successfully forced Canada to abandon protections for its magazine industry " This statement worked with Barlows argument because it proved that media competion has been a problem for a while. Also he makes a good point on this issue when he also says concerning the Canadian magazine industry when saying, " The US is taking a hard line because any exemption for Canada will set a precedent for other countries, especially in the in the developing world where cultural protection is just emerging as an issue>"
