The Beginning of the End for Water

The article "Water Wars: Bottling Up the World's supply of H2O" represents the author, Joshua Ortega's stance on the topic of water related to the environmentally unsafe bottling of water. He writes to inform audiences of the future dangers that will come out of this field of work. The author uses many different appeals and displays distinct figurative language in order to persuade his audiences of the dangers affiliated with such manufacturing.
When bringing into perspective the cons of bottling such a public/natural resource such as water, Ortega informs us, " The most common plastic used in water bottle manufacturing is PET (polyethylene terephthalate), an environmentally unfriendly substance that actually requires 17.5 kilograms of water to produce only 1 kilogram of PET. In fact, more water is used to make PET bottle than is actually put into them." This gives us a vivid picture of the inefficient bottling process that these water manufacturers are partaking in.
Ortega tries to make us aware of how the problem reguarding bottled water, is simply just being covered up by the big manufacturers rather than discovering a true solution for the problem, and calling it a "Band-Aid solution." They make the water seen clean, affordable, and environmentally friendly. Therefore the citizens are forced to pay for this water that is ultimately not good for the well-being of the people.
When talking about how some of today's natural resources are simply "luxuries," such as oil. He explains that such a resource as water is a "necessity" and exclaims, "Taking away your water is the same thing as putting a gun to your head." This makes his audience aware that water is a resource that is generally needed for survival and without it, the outcome would be catastrophic. He over exaggerates this statement to help the audience understand how important our world's water supply truly is and if changes are not made then within the water manufacturing companies, then we might end up living in a world without water.
