Barbara Ehrenreich, the author of Wal-Martian Invasion is a political activist, feminist, journalist, and critic. Before learning anything about her you can tell she is educated, and she is. She got a PhD in science but chose to focus on writing and critical journalism. Wal-Martian Invasion was published online on Commondreams.org who has a growing number of viewers. The purpose of the website is to inform and spread progressivism and affect change. In the essay she mentions Andy Stern's vision for a nationwide movement to stand up to the radical growth of Wal-Mart. This is a call to action that is directed specifically to her viewers because those that would read from the website would want to help change the way Wal-Mart opperates and its bad treatment of employees.
