Despite it being a senstive topic Kristof makes a compelling argument in opposition to the banning of child labor. By giving logical evidence about the affects of a ban, he makes appeals to logos. For example, by referencing the affects of the 1993 U.S. Child Labor Deterrence Act, he shows the negative affects of child labor bans. He also makes an appeal to pathos by describing the bad affects of unemployment for children. When he says he feels like a "Scrooge" for speaking out against the banning of child labor and states that he knows child labor is not a good thing it appeals to the pathos of the reader which makes them less likely to automatically regect the argument all together. He also issues a feasible call to action by saying exactly what the U.N. should do to counter the affects of banning child labor. With this he is adressing the conservative political party and getting their attention.
