7-D Wal-Martian invasion
Wal-Martian Invasion is a short essay written by the feminist and democratic socialist Barbara Ehrenreich. She is famous for her other works including: This Land is Their Land and Nickel and Dimed which also discuss some of the atrocities associated with overly-dominant practices of big businesses. With these two books in mind, one must note the correlation between Ehrenreich and radical socialist views. Since Ehenreich's main target audience is the so called 'oppressed workers' and political activists it's easy for the reader to understand her extremist viewpoints. One such viewpoint is to raise the national minimum wage by a couple dollars increasing it to the 9 and 10 dollar range. With all this in mind it is difficult to take Ehrenreich seriously. However, in Wal-Martian Invasion she raises some very compelling arguments that make it difficult for the reader to not take her side, but that seems to be how things go with a universal issue such as the omnipotence of Wal-Mart. Ehrenreich appeals to the reader's emotions by siting in 2000 years how the earth will be covered by supermarkets, but with background knowledge of Ehrenreich, the reader should be skeptical of some of her radical viewpoints. Thus being said, Ehrenreich attacks the atrocities of Wal-Mart effectively and uses sarcasm to further prove her points on how unjust the business really is.
