6b National Post
The author of We Need Sincere Free Trade, Johan Norgerg is a fairly young man (36) that has made a name for himself as a Swedish writer. His is mostly known for his book, In Defense of Global Capitalism, but is also a Fellow at the CATO Institute, a "libertarian think tank," headquartered in Washington D.C. He does apparently write for The National Post though which is a historically conservative paper in Canada that has ties to the libertarian party through Israel Asper, the founder of CanWest Interactive. CanWest Interactive is the current publisher of The National Post. I believe that the approach of the article is fully taken off the grounds of who his audience is. They are fairly conservative/libertarian Canadians who want less government interaction, especially less American government interaction in their businesses. Because he is advocating more free trade and a decrease in barriers a tariffs on trade, the audience is perfect. He states that, "Our protectionism may lead to greater problems in the future." He would have trouble writing his article in the Washington Post or any other liberal paper, but since his audience already agrees with his position politically, hes not going to have a hard time marketing his ideas to them.
