6-B Free Trade

Johan Norberg was born in Stockholm Sweden in 1973. Politically he is liberal in the classical European tradition (Locke, Smith). Norberg has participated in a number of debates against the Swedish anti-globalization movement. In May 2001 he released the book In Defense of Global Capitalism where he assembles his arguments for globalization and free trade. He also speaks of free trade in We Need Sincere Free Trade, which first appeared in The National Post on September 10, 2003. In this he tells of the unfair and cruel barriers to import that the EU is using against developing countries. Norberg uses statistics to show the unfairness of the EU’s protectionism. It deprives developing countries of nearly $700 billion in export income each year. He uses specific information to show how this effecting every nation, not just developing countries.
