Living with The Wal-Martian's
In 2004 a liberal feminist by the name of Barbara Ehrenreich wrote an essay called "Wal-Martian Invasion" that was published in the newspaper The Baltimore Sun. By just the voice that she uses in her writing, and the fact that it was published in a very liberal newspaper, one can tell that she is intending this to be read and supported by bleeding heart liberals. She wrote this article as it was really starting to become more and more common for educated people having to take blue colar jobs to be able to work at all. The U.S. economy has been on a downward slope for a while and this was really written when the economy was really starting to get noticed more. As I was reading this article I found myself surprised at the fact that she only fousces on Wal-Mart and no other bussness or industry. First off being from MI where the economy is dying a little more each and every day, I see people dreaming of getting a job at the local Wal-Mart, because Walmart is the best employer in the area. I am sure that MI is not the only place were people dream of getting a job at the local Wal-Mart, because it is the best thing out there. Anymore most people in the U.S. have to survie on minmam paying jobs like at Wal-Mart to even be able to put the next meal on their table. With the fact that Wal-Mart is employing these people and not Ehrenreich should she really be putting this employer down so much. Having grown up around a lot of bleeding heart liberals, one things I learned is that they complain a lot about places like Wal-Mart, but they never really do anything to change it. They talk a lot, tell people that things need to be done, and are really great at just complaining. However, nothing is really every done. After reading this article I really believe that that is what Enrenreich is doing here.
