7b - Adrienne, Jessica, Colter

In this article, Rajiva argues that the globalization of small villages has brought destruction instead of advancement. The author uses pathos to get the reader to empathize with the way her village is being run down. She says, "Hundred-year-old trees have been cut down to make way for this ambitious national highway," and then goes on to say how her mother can hardly breathe outside because of all the construction going on that has added to pollution. After expaining a few more stories, Rajiva tells that,"In the state of Karnataka, small farmers, like the campesinos at Cancun have committed ritual suicide to express their outrage at the destruction of their lives by multinationals. They are the imediate and dramtic victims of globalization." The author's voice is trying to convince those already in favor of globalization to have a more humane view and realize the affects it has on the natives of foreign countries.
